Exceptions:
- You may use a previous UH assessment exam score if you took the test no more than one year ago.
- You may enroll without the assessment exam if you have appropriate transfer credits.
- The assessment exam is waived if you received an acceptable score on the Calculus Advanced Placement Exam. See details.
- You are eligible for Math 140 or Math 203 if you completed Math 135 with a "C-" or better at one of the UH Community Colleges.
- All testing is held in the Physical Science 208
- Bring your U.H. Student I.D. and a pencil.

- Take the first practice exam. Note the problems you missed.
- Review similar problems covered in your high school algebra or geometry.
- Read "Cliff's Notes: Math Review for Standardized Tests" in Sinclair, Hamilton, the Bookstore, and Amazon.com
- Then, try the second practice exam. Continue until you can achieve the required score within the 45 minute time limit.
What to do if you fail
If you don't pass the Assessment Exam during the assigned exam periods, you may try again next semester. If you need help preparing for this or other Assessment Exams, you may take the Intermediate Algebra Refresher course offered by the Outreach College. You may also take a comparable Community College course.
Course information for the Intermediate Algebra Refresher course:
Offered September 5 - October 5. Tue/Thu 5:45-8:15pm, 10 meetings, $120 including courseware.
Students are eligible to take the UHM Math Pre-Calculus Assessment Exam on October 10, 5:00pm.
This precedes the evening session of Math 140 (311) 1134 runs Oct. 10 - Dec. 14, Tue/Thur. 6:00-8:00pm.
