(8/7) Welcome to math 311!
(8/8) Follow the instructions on the UH Manoa TAH Program for free MATLAB access. Using MATLAB isn't a requirement for our course, but I highly encourage you use it.
(8/20) Here are scans of the first few sections: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4.
(9/21) Here's the video on determinants we watched on Thursday.
(10/15) You may use MATLAB or your favorite linear algebra software on your assignments for routine algebra (rref, matrix algebra, inverses, determinants). Just keep in mind you will not have this software on exams, so occasionally do some by hand.
(12/11) I will have drop in office hours this Thursday and Friday. I am usually around during normal business hours. I will not have office hours on finals week.

Exam 1:

The first exam is Thursday 10/3.
The exam will cover chapter 1, chapter 2, and 3.1-3.3.
You can bring a 3x5 index card with notes (both sides). You can turn in your index card with your exam for extra credit.
Here are some review problems. You can turn in solutions to these practice problems the day of the exam for extra credit.
The mean for this exam \(\mu=37.8~ (86\%)\) and here are averages by problem.

Exam 2:

The next exam is Thursday 11/14.
The exam will cover chapter 4 and 5.3.
You can bring a 3x5 index card with notes (both sides). You can turn in your index card with your exam for extra credit.
Here are review problems. You can turn in solutions to these practice problems the day of the exam for extra credit. Feel free to continue using software to help you solve these problems.
Caution: (11/1) I instructed ChatGPT construct some of the vectors and matrices to have particular properties, ChatGPT's resoning was always correct but I'm pretty sure it screwed up some of the arithmetic. Let me know if you think a problem has mistake, I will go through the problems myself next week. In particular, I used ChatGPT for problems 2, 3, and 4, the rest shouldn't be an issue.

Final:

The final is Tuesday 12/17 9:45-11:45.
The exam will be comprehensive, but will primarily focus on the material after exam 2.
You can bring a 5x8 index card with notes (both sides). You can turn in your index card with your exam for extra credit.
Here are some review problems. You can turn these in the day of the final for extra credit. Also, using software is encouraged.
