Effective Fall 2020

BA in Mathematics and Physics

MATH 244 or 253A; and MATH 307 or 311 can be double counted in the Mathematics and Physics majors. All other courses that are counted toward the BA Math degree CANNOT be counted toward the 15cr. of “Interdisciplinary Concentration” of the BA Physics major.

BS in Mathematics and Physics

PHYS 170, 170L, 272, 272L; MATH 244 or 253A; and MATH 307 or 311 can be double counted in the Mathematics and Physics majors. The 15 related credits for Mathematics and the upper division Physics credits may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Astrophysics

PHYS 170, 170L, 272, 272L; MATH 244 or 253A; and MATH 307 or 311 can be double counted in the Mathematics and Astrophysics majors. The 15 related credits for Mathematics and the upper division Astrophysics credits may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Chemistry

PHYS 170, 170L, 272, 272L; MATH 244 or 253A can be double counted in the Mathematics and Chemistry majors. The 15 related credits for Mathematics and the upper division Chemistry credits may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Computer Science

BS in Computer Science Data Science Track and BS in Mathematics Data Science track:

Math 301, Math 307, Math 372, ICS 211 and 435 may be double counted in both majors. Math 472 can be substituted for Math 372 and Math 311 can be substituted for Math 307 in the
requirements for the BS in Computer Science Data Science Track and, in that case, can be double counted in both majors.

BS in Computer Science Data Science Track and BS in Mathematics General Track:

Math 301 and 307 can be double counted in both majors. Math 311 can be substituted for Math 307 in the requirements for the BS in Computer Science Data Science Track and, in that case, can be double counted in both majors. Up to an additional 9 credits in upper division computer science courses may count towards the 15 related credits for the math
requirements.

BS in Computer Science General Track and BS in Mathematics Data Science Track:

Up to five computer science courses may be double counted in both majors.

BS in Computer Science General Track and BS in Mathematics General Track:

The 15 related credits for mathematics and the upper division computer science credits may be satisfied by the same courses.

Effective July 2010

BS in Mathematics and Computer Science

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the 31 credits (ICS 111, 141, 211, 212, 241, 311, 312, 313, 321, 331) for ICS cannot be double counted. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the 15 additional credits for ICS may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Physics

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the 23 credits (Physics 274, 274L, 310, 350, 400, 430, 450, 480, 480L) for physics cannot be double counted. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the remaining upper division required credits for physics may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Chemistry

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the 38 credits (Chem 272, 272L, 273, 273L, 274, 274L, 351, 352, 352L, 372, 422, 425, 425L, 445, 445L) for chemistry cannot be double counted. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the 6 additional required credits for chemistry may be satisfied by the same courses.

Concurrent degrees

Mathematics and Engineering

Students must satisfy program requirements (core) for both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Engineering. Students must also meet the College of Arts and Sciences standards for admission.

BS in Mathematics and Civil and Environmental Engineering

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the 28 credits (CEE 305, 320, 330, 355, 361, 370/370L, 375, 381) for civil engineering cannot be double counted. Math 302 or Math 307 may be counted towards the 24 required credits for mathematics. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the remaining uppper division required credits for CEE may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Electrical Engineering

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the 26 credits (Phys 274, Engineering Breadth, EE 315, 323, 324, 342, 371 and either 361/361L, or 326/326L, or 341/341L, depending on track) for EE cannot be double counted. Math 302 or Math 307 may be counted towards the 24 required credits for mathematics. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the remaining required credits for EE may be satisfied by the same courses.

BS in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering

The 24 required credits for mathematics and ME 311, 312, 322, 331, 341, 371, 372, 373, 374, 375, 401, and 402 cannot be double counted. Math 302 or Math 307 may be counted towards the 24 required credits for mathematics. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the remaining required credits for ME may be satisfied by the same courses.

Mathematics and Bioengineering

Students must satisfy program requirements (core) for both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Students must also meet the College of Arts and Sciences standards for admission.

BS in Mathematics and Bioengineering

The 24 required credits for mathematics and the engineering courses ME 311, ME 322 or CEE 320, BE 350, BE 350L, BE 360, and BE 373 cannot be double counted. Math 302, Math 307, or Math 311 may be counted towards the 24 required credits in mathematics. The 15 related credits for mathematics and the remaining requried courses for BE may be satisfied by the same courses.
